Roses in Concrete: Helping Isolated Boys and Men

Inspired by Tupac Shakur’s powerful poem, “The rose that grew from concrete”, Kim Samuel’s latest article on the Huffington Post, “Roses in Concrete: Helping Isolated Boys and Men” draws on the theme of the unsung hero, growing and thriving against the odds and more importantly, the structures, supports and relationships that enable this to occur.

She suggests that as a society, we need to confront the archetypal notion that males must only struggle alone. In looking at several initiatives that support boys and men through critical transitions, she illustrates the incredible strength found in new pathways to social connectedness and belonging.
