This year’s International Day of Happiness, being celebrated today around the world, also marks the launch of the SDG Pyramid to Happiness! The SDG Pyramid is an initiative led by the United in Diversity Foundation that frames the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to the three pathways to happiness rooted in Balinese belief, Tri Hita Karana.

This traditional philosophy emphasizes harmony of people with each other, harmony of people with nature, and harmony of people with their spirituality. The UID Foundation believes that the bridging of these pathways — the social, ecological and spiritual — is key to bringing forth the happiness of individuals. “As we sense the emerging future in these seventeen goals, what emerges is the reflection of roots of cultures and spiritual philosophies that have guided the lives of many communities around the world for centuries.”

The UID Foundation has also developed the SDG Playcards, a fun and inspiring way to raise awareness of the SDGs and connect us socially, ecologically and spiritually! Kim Samuel proudly shared a video message to help spread the word, expressing both her support for the SDG Pyramid and international efforts to further the SDGs. The SDGs, also referred to as the Global Goals, represent a coordinated effort by the United Nations to mobilize countries around the world to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, with specific targets to be reached by 2030.
