We are pleased to share Kim Samuel’s latest article, published in Walrus Magazine, “Why we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on sexual violence.

At this year’s World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cited #MeToo, ‘times up’ and the women’s marches, reflecting that “these movements tell us that we need to have a critical discussion on women’s rights, equality and the power dynamics of gender.” With this in mind, Kim passionately shines light on the inadequacies of the criminal justice system in addressing sexual violence, arguing that we can no longer allow victims to be isolated in their suffering. Further, she makes the case for restorative justice as a means to address the issue and bridge the gap between justice and healing.
